Why Art Camp is the Perfect Addition to Your Child’s Summer

Hey readers!

It's been a while since I've written a blog—even though the urge to share more often is always there, being a business owner means time flies faster than I'd like. For those new around here, I'm Kat (or Ekaterina), co-owner and founder of our art studio. Today, I want to talk about our upcoming summer camp and share why it's a wonderful addition to your child's summer.

Can you believe summer is almost here? It truly feels like time speeds up, especially when you're having fun! This year marks our fifth year of summer camps, and each season has gotten better and better. The absolute best part for me is seeing campers who’ve been with us since day one. Watching them grow year after year, observing changes in their conversations, interests, and catching up with their parents—it genuinely warms our hearts. It’s these meaningful connections that make our studio so special.

If you're considering enrolling your kiddo or if you've already signed them up and are wondering what to expect, here's a quick snapshot:

Our art camps are designed to be both fun and educational, providing the ideal environment for creativity to flourish. For campers who only have the chance to join us during the summer, enrolling for the full week (Monday through Friday) is the perfect way to experience everything we offer. Each day focuses on different skills and art forms, helping your child grow creatively throughout the week.

Here's a quick breakdown:

  • Mondays kick off with drawing—the foundational skill of art—while campers settle in comfortably with their classmates.

  • Tuesdays are dedicated to canvas painting. Campers explore landscape painting aligned with the weekly theme, learning brush strokes, perspective, foreground, background, and mastering how to use their brushes effectively. The more sessions they participate in, the more their confidence and skills will grow—just like with any other activity, practice makes perfect!

  • Wednesdays bring excitement with cartoon or anime characters, teaching campers anatomy and expressive drawing techniques.

  • Thursdays focus on clay and mixed media projects. This is an absolute favorite as campers get to bring their creations into the 3D world, reinforcing the painting skills they've learned, especially regarding highlights and shadows.

  • Fridays wrap up with a dive into art history, studying a famous artist. Campers create their own masterpieces inspired by iconic artists, understanding the importance and joy of connecting with art’s rich past.

You might be wondering how we handle the wide age range (4.5–16). Our campers are separated by age groups for several important reasons. Projects vary significantly in complexity and detail, younger kids naturally need more frequent or longer breaks since little hands tire faster, and the individual attention students require differs. Playtime and peer interactions also vary greatly—what’s funny or exciting for younger campers may not resonate with older ones. This separation ensures each child has a tailored, enjoyable experience. This is especially important for siblings; we understand the older sibling's natural instinct to help out and the younger one's temptation to lean into that help (we see you, little siblings!). But rest assured, siblings still have plenty of chances to connect during breaks or at lunchtime if they're attending a full day.

In addition to our standard morning and afternoon camps, we've added special afternoon sessions durin

g certain weeks specifically for ages 10–16. We understand some older kids want to dive deeper into specific areas, like fine art. These sessions are amazing master-style workshops led by Masha—a professional fine art artist, co-owner, co-founder of our studio, and, as it happens, my amazing mom. These additional sessions also allow campers who join us for the full day to explore different themes in the morning and afternoon, making the experience even richer.

Now, you might be thinking, "Can’t they just draw and doodle at home, maybe follow along on YouTube?

" And yes, absolutely, but there’s a huge difference. From my personal observations, countless conversations with parents, students, and insights from psychology books, I can confidently tell you that being creative in a group setting surrounded by professional artists offers unparalleled benefits.

Our world today moves incredibly fast—instant gratification is everywhere, and patience is becoming rarer by the day (true story: kids now skip show intros because they just can't wait!). But I've noticed that when kids spend time in our studio, surrounded by creative role models and peers, their values shift positively. They learn that perfection isn't the goal; making mistakes is normal and crucial for growth. Watching kids share these moments and bounce back from challenges together is honestly more rewarding than seeing them get things right the first time.

Learning to accept constructive criticism, understanding the value of patience, embracing imperfections, and discovering resilience are powerful life skills fostered through art. In contrast, I've noticed that kids who only participate in sports can sometimes struggle with patience and handling setbacks, something creative activities naturally help develop. Activities like art, chess, or music teach kids how to thoughtfully approach problems, reflect on their work, and interact harmoniously with others.

Perhaps the greatest joy of our camps is seeing children bond and form friendships over shared creative experiences. Social interactions flourish as campers chat during sessions, enjoy snacks together, play chess, or even sing along to their favorite songs. We have campers of every personality type—from outgoing to shy—and witnessing their friendships blossom over art is incredibly heartwarming.

And let's not forget the simple yet essential lessons of responsibility—cleaning up and respecting their workspace, which we call their "second home." These small habits nurture self-discipline and community respect.

If you haven't visited our gallery yet, I highly recommend watching our latest studio tour.

Honestly, it's hard to put into words what it feels like stepping into our space, but I can promise you this: every single person who walks through our doors is instantly filled with wonder and inspiration.

To save your spot, register now by making a deposit—you won't have to pay the balance until May 1st. This ensures your spot is secured since many weeks sell out quickly!
