We're thrilled to welcome Mik-l back to Bash & Design for an exclusive pop-up workshop! A former instructor here, beloved for teaching our anime and advanced character design classes, Mik-l is in town for a limited time and generously sharing his knowledge.

An active artist working in video game character design and comic cover art, Mik-l is bringing his expertise straight into the studio. This is a rare chance to learn the craft directly from someone doing the exact work so many young artists dream of doing.

 

What this workshop is about:

This class is built for students with real passion for story and narrative-driven art who want to level up their character design skills. You'll be introduced to professional methods of character design, the same approaches used in comics, video games, and animation, and put them into practice, moving from warm-ups all the way to a finished project.

How it works:

The first half of Day 1 uses references to practice character design fundamentals for your main project. From the second half of Day 1 through Day 2, you'll step into a simulated professional experience, working as if you're part of a commissioned character design studio, on a special project revealed in class.

Who this is for:

Open to everyone ages 13 and up, whether you're a current student or brand new to our studio. This workshop is best for students who already have basic drawing skills and a love for storytelling through art. It's designed to build on existing ability, so a foundation in drawing will help you get the most out of it.

What to bring:

    •    A sketchbook

    •    A phone (for reference)

    •    If you use an iPad with Procreate or a similar app, you're absolutely encouraged to bring it. Digital work is welcome.

    •    No iPad or phone? No problem, we have a studio iPad available to use.
